    Nube TD9SX Questions

I would greatly appreciate anyone’s input on the following nubie questions.

I picked up a used TD9SX at my local GC over Labor Day.

    The kit came with:

    PD-105
    PD-85 (x3)
    KD-8 Kick trigger
    FD-8 HH pedal
    TD-9 module (w/ a multi-pin connector, one ¼” Aux in, one ¼” 'Crash' in, and Midi in/outs)
    CY-5
    CY- 8
    CY-12 R/C

I figured that I would upgrade as I played it more. The salesman said even though the module only had 2 extra inputs, I could get some kind of ¼” MIDI Patch bay and use the MIDI in on the sound module to wire up “as many drums as I’d like” (or something to that effect).

I also bought a DW Pacific Double Kick pedal; the sales person said it would work with the KD-8.

    So, my questions are:

    1) Can I wire up additional drums via a ¼” Midi patch bay?

    2) Has anyone tried using a Double Kick pedal with the KD-8?

    3) And finally, the kit came with three PD-8’s. I would eventually like to buy two larger floor toms and only use 2 (of the 3) PD-8’s. Does anyone know if I could use the extra PD-8 as a Kick trigger?

Once again, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Matt

    Welcome to the forum

    1) Can I wire up additional drums via a ¼” Midi patch bay?
No. You can buy a second module (I use a td6v) or a TMC-6 to do this.
    2) Has anyone tried using a Double Kick pedal with the KD-8?
    Yes, of course. No problems.

    3) And finally, the kit came with three PD-8’s. I would eventually like to buy two larger floor toms and only use 2 (of the 3) PD-8’s. Does anyone know if I could use the extra PD-8 as a Kick trigger?
I would look to replace all the pd8s eventually, your wrists will thank you. If you can figure out how to suspend the pd8, you can probably use it as a kick trigger - other people have used mesh pads as ersatz kick triggers. Would this be instead of the kd8 double kick or in addition to???

    Saku,

Thanks for the advice… as well as the welcome.

BTW, I misspoke in my OP; the kit came with PD-85’s (not PD-8’s – if that makes a difference).

In response to your question, I was planning on replacing KD-8 with the (extra) PD-85. I thought it might be a little more reliable to operate the double pedals on the PD-85’s larger surface area.

Is there an advantage to larger pads as far as your wear and tear on your wrists? I would ideally like to replace all the PD-85’s (or maybe keep one as an additional high tom) – although, that would mean I would have replaced 90% of the kit at that point. Oh well…

    Thanks again.

The pd8s are hard rubber pads, the pd85s are mesh, so there is quite a difference to your wrists. Having a larger mesh pad wont make a difference to your wrist, but the hotspot might be less, and it feels nicer to be bigger!

some people prefer the kd8 or its replacement kd9 to having a mesh kick, as mesh kicks are quite bouncy.

for replacing your pads, check out www.diamondelectronicdrums.com...superb!
