    KD9 - Which pedal?

Hello everyone! New here and, for the record, a complete noob in drumming. Never laid my hands on real drums, neither acoustic nor e-drums (XBox doesn't count). I'm 44 (yep) and have just ordered my first drum set (i.e., TD-9K2, which will reach me in a few days) for recreational purposes only, of course, that without prejudice to properly doing it though (Tommy Igoe DVD's on the way )

Now, the set comes with a Basix PD 600V3 bass pedal, on which I couldn't find any useful reviews. However, I have the opportunity to get a pre-owned (like-new) Tama SpeedCobra for a (sort of) decent price, which, according to various reviews, would ensure smooth operation and speed. Anyway, my question is: would this pedal be an overkill for a beginner? Would it be appropriate for beating the KD9 with?

Any (every) advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

PS: Apologize if I misplaced this post

    Speed Cobra.
You'll never waste money investing in a good pedal.
It won't make you a worse drummer!

Probably worth mentioning that while pretty much any standard kick pedal will work, you don't want to use a felt beater directly on the KD9 or any mesh pad. Either use a rubber beater or a patch on the KD9 to protect it from the felt.

Uh-oh I've been using the felt on mine! EEP! I'll turn the mallet around tonight! Will there be any lasting damage?

No, it's not as crucial on a KD-9 as it is with a mesh head. Roland doesn't rule out a felt beater in the KD-9 manual:

    * This package does not include a kick pedal or beater. A variety of commercially available beaters can be used, including felt, plastic, or wood types.

A local Guitar Center by my brother's place was selling a used Speed Cobra for $80 with the case. I cracked it open and it was flawless. Certainly there are deals to be had on these things, but with a Speed Cobra, or any Tama pedal, you will have to get a different beater, which just adds another $20-30 to the overall price.

I picked up a Pearl Eliminator double pedal set and they are great. Lots of adjustability to meet any drummers style. Adjustable cams for changing the pedal feel and speed. The single pedal is $130 new. Nice used ones are ~$90 on eBay. I'm a fan of them, and they come with a multi-sided bass drum beater. 2 sides are felt, 2 sides are plastic. Nice pedal for the price.
