It is like buying computers or cars, the features that are on the top end kits now will be standard across the range in a few years, but there will always be something new in the top end products to make you want them

i know i am a 2box fanboy. i have played in td-9 and 2box edrums only (and alesis dm5 sorry)
for the amount you say you need to spend, go for 2box. it is the best brain there is yet, and imo it is the best simulation of acoustic drums ever.
mind you i havent played a td-20 or td-30, but i know people that traded them for a 2box. and it is one third of their price. to be honest if i had a bigger room, id just get the 2box brain and get some custom acoustic kits made in electronic. they are so nice. but in your price region i think 2box is one way street. just keep in mind that you should have your own kick pedal and hi hat stand for optimum performance. 2box comes with its one kick and hh stand but they arent up for it for a good serious drummer.
    thats my thought.
(and i hope i dont get killed by roland fanboys lol)
