    Powered Subwoofer Monitor

Greetings all! I would really like to have a little more thump in my monitoring rig. I use a relatively cheap Behringer monitor that I absolutely beat the snot out of (hence the cheapness). It actually sounds okay for a monitor but because it's a 12" woofer, I could use some more bass.

I would have thought there would have been a few of these around, maybe specifically for drummers. However, I'm having trouble locating a powered subwoofer in a monitor cabinet. The only thing I've found is the EAW MicroSub, which is way pricey.

Do you guys know of anything that fits these requirements? Thanks for any input!

Might take a look at the Yorkville LS200P their a small foot print but you'll need a x-over for it
Also don't let the 10" sub woofer driver fool you one bit . It's gonna hit hard and heavy like thos small
subwoofers in car audio that rattle the neighbors window. That box is design and tuned for those lows.
I own the LS700P along with NX55P but now I use NX750P since I do a different genre of music and
don't have to compete with idiot stupid loud guitar players with 1/2 stacks crank to concert levels in a small club that might can hold 50 ppl.

Yeah, I've looked at a bazillion powered subs but I'm looking for something a bit more portable and low profile. I'm hoping to not have to lug a huge box around. I'm wanting something like this without the big price tag. Any ideas?

Well....The peavey is a bit smaller overall and 20lbs lighter....and has an 18" driver. Now the form factor is a little different but you could always lay the PV down on it's side and set it directly behind your throne. This is what I do. Then I set my mixing console on it.

LS200 weighs 55lbs it' ultra compact the only other compact would be a Danley THi mini but your gonna need a amp an x-over.
The EV has a new lite weight sub but it would fart out on way to soon
I doubt your gonna beat the Yorkville 2 year no question ask warrnty plan plus it's small foot print.
I dunno what eles to tell you other then good luck.

I use two Simmons DA200S in stereo for most of my gigs, I just add a Alto ts -15sub to my setup if and when I need a little more bottom, this has sounded very good to me and the boys in the band. not to heavy at 60 lbs...600 watt amp inside..plenty

Ive been using a Roland KCW-1 for years now its only 200W but it gives out a good low thump dont make them anymore but you might still pick some up otherwise there are loads of decent subs out there its what you want to pay is the sticking point...Duncan.

Instead of a speaker, have you given any thought to one of those buttkicker devices? Since it's just for you and not the FOH, it may give you the thump you desire without sacrificing your hearing.
Also, the more deep thump you have pointing at you, the more you risk mistriggers with your pads.

I eliminated external speakers all together and use in ear monitors. They fit in my pocket!!

I have heavily considered the ButtKicker Concert. Does anyone have any experience with them? I just fear it'll feel like the vibration in a PlayStation controller or something.

i own a pearl throne thumper that i cant live without (made by buttkicker). comes with the amp and the transducer clamps on the throne post. gives a nice illusion of a subwoofer that you can feel. with headpnones it seems like you hear it as well.
the amp has a volume and a crossover control to dail in more or less toms as well which is nice especialy the floor toms.
also with a roland module bracket (bought seperatly) you can mount it to the drumrack. highly recommend.
on another note i also have a bbe 482 sonic maximiser which adds punch to the lows and sparkle to the highs for those that want more thump from their kits along with clearity.

Not sure that thing is exactly small. HERE is a video of the thing...I couldn't find out just what this thing weighs. I don't believe it's powered so you'd need additional equipment to run it...and like you said, it ain't cheap. I found it selling at about $1500.

I run one of these. I wouldn't say it's "small" either, but looks comparable to the MicroSub in size, is powered, and has a great set of casters on it that make moving it around a breeze. It weighs in at 74lbs and I managed to grab one with a coupon for $850. And it kicks much butt...I run it at about 11 oclock on the volume knob just to keep it under control.

    It weighs 94lbs! That's why I suggested the PV @ 20lbs lighter...and about the same general dimentions....and $1000 cheaper.

I have 2 of the older "unpowered" models and I run about 300watts through them too. They thump your guts out! Even when I only use 1 directly behind my kit.
