For me it's SD2 all the way!!!

I have BFD2 as well as SD2 & don't even use BFD2 anymore! I find it was a big waste of my money for me (& the most expensive to boot!) Too loud for one thing!

SD2 is fantastic !! Love it!! The 'learn' button is awesome. I like it better than the way you map BFD2. I find the drag & drop annoying, but, that's just my opinion of course. I also think SD2 sounds better!

That's my 2 cents anyways. Hope it helps

I'm with Kim all the way!

I too have both, and don't even bother with BFD2 at all anymore, and even uninstalled it.

I have and love them both.
The BFD2 interface is the most friendly in my opinion. SD2 plays great .. it is a tough one.

What is your computer set up? BFD2 streams from hard drive so a separate one at 7200 rpm is a must ...

BFD2 ALL THE WAY FOR ME!!!! I own BFD1, BFD2, Jazz&Funk, XFL, 8Bit kit, Modern Drummer Snares, Joe Barressi Evil Drums, Jim Scott Drums, Andy Johns Drums, Every Yamaha Expansion, and some others. Believe me, I've tried them (BFD1.5/BFD2, SD2) side by side and chose to stick with BFD. For me It wasn't any more complicated to get up and running than SD2.0; and I didn't have much VST experience at the time. And just to let you know I actually picked BFD1.5 over SD2.0. I still totally dig the BFD1.5 and XFL samples; they're older, but they still sound awesome. BFD2's drums are as loud as you adjust them to be. If you have a chance to play the two side by side then you will for sure notice a difference. But, really it all comes down to preference. If I'd never had the chance to compare the two side by side, then I would have chosen to purchase SD2. Mainly because the price difference and reading the negative feedback about BFD. I've experienced small issues here and there, but nothing that has made me change my mind about switching over to SD2. BFD2's latest update is pretty nice also. And, oh yeah, FXpansion customer support is pretty AWESOME!!! Again, it all comes down to preference, but if you don't have a chance to compare the two side by side, then your in a pretty tough spot. BFD2 is totally worth the price and if you don't want to pay full price for BFD2 then wait for BFD Eco and give that a try. BFD Eco comes out a like a week or so. Why do you think SD2 is on sale for half price right now at Guitar Center? I totally think it's because BFD Eco is going to be some pretty tough competition. Just look it up on Youtube.

The BFD2 drums are more my style than SD2, they both have good expansions, can't say for SD2 but BFD2 plays nicely on my kit and mixing with it is a dream, I'd go with whatever sounds best to you

I think that would fall very, very low on the list why I would choose either solution (though don't overlook how easy it is to actually use a "Learn" feature in S2.0).

I think the biggest reason you'd want either is sound. Each has quite a few libraries to choose from .. so what library do you think fits what you are trying to achieve as a drummer? Starting with that as your priority will probably lead you toward one over the other, and once there you are going to figure out how the product works. Though there are differences, they both do work. Go to each vendor's forum and check out samples posted by users to get more ideas about how a particular library sounds. That'd be my advice.

For me, apart from sound, I like the programming and thought that went into the Toontrack engine. Even back in dfh Superior days it was a very good engine, if not having a very easy-to-get-into User Interface. S2.0 changed that and Toontrack showed a serious focus on UI. Both the engine and UI evolve at a fairly rapid pace. As a programmer, I have a lot of respect for that team of developers.

S2.0 plays better in most cases but BFD can play well depending on the library and settings. I prefer the sound choices for BFD. The upcoming Neil Peart kit is my favorite even though I am not a Rush fan. I played it at NAMM and it seemed to trigger very well from a Yamaha kit.

I also have both and really love the BFD2 interface. I find swapping out kit pieces from different libraries much more intuitive. The platinumsamples expansion packs is what sets BFD2 apart from SD 2.0 for me. Evil Drums is now available for SD 2.0 which evens out the field a bit, but the Jim Scott collection (BFD only) is awesome.

i am using SD 2.0 a bit more and like it (and much prefer the integrated MIDI browser than the BFD2 palette system.)

FXPansion just came out with BFD Eco which is a scaled down less expensive version of BFD2 but will play the expansion kits.

That all being said, can't really go wrong with either.

I don't think BFD Eco will be tough competition for Superior Drummer.
    It's far too limited:

Each kit-piece features a maximum of 24 velocity layers, at 16-bit resolution, for each of its articulations. Any expansion pack kit-pieces are also reduced to this detail level when loading them within BFD Eco.
It might be a competitor for EzDrummer though if it's affordable? I'm not familiar with the limitations within EzDrummer, so I can't say how much they will compete.

I've been very happy with SD2 - I did a lot of research before getting into drum libraries, and have some friends from both camps. After listening to the demos on both sites and mixes done with both BFD2 and SD2, BFD2 sounded very artificial to me. Something about the way they round robin their samples doesn't sound natural. I really wanted to like a lot of the expansions that came out, like the steven slate stuff, and the joe barresi libraries, but I could really hear machine gunning in fills on the snare/toms and I wasn't confident enough about it to spend the money.

Certainly there are plenty of people happy with BFD2, but I have always been more impressed as both a producer and drummer with SD2.

I own a td 9 and just jumped into the world of drums vst since the ultimate group buy (1 and 2) from sonic reality... and i love those sounds and the new hihat script...
until the end of the month there's a special price for sd2... so my question is, for those who own sd2 and the ultimate group buy : if i buy sd2, what will be better with it, what are the important differences between this 2 vst... is it a good deal and why ?

hope to be understood because.... i'm french !

    thanks

i'm thinkin' about the offer of 140$ for SD2

    The last question is:

which is the cheaper for upgrade, bfd or sd?

i switched from cubase to logic also for the cost of upgrade
