TD20 - TD20X Snares

I am having the hardest time finding just one good snare for the TD20X ! Coming from the TD6 module that had some great sounding snares I just can't believe how flat, canny, and washed out the snares can be on this module ? I am looking for a nice punchy, deep, smack in your face snare sound similar to the FAT2-S on the TD6 but nothing comes close so far. I have been working endlessly at tweaking one up including using several VEX kits that I purchased which are a huge improvement but nothing that blows me away. Everything about the TD20X is beyond incredible ! But the snares ??? I probably would have gone back to the TD6 if it had 8 outputs for recording which is one of the main reasons I upgraded to the 20X, there has to be something there but I continue to get frustrated more and more as I continue my search............PLEASE HELP !

OK.........Making some progress today with the help of the good people at Vexpressions ! They really pointed out how in depth you can go into this module in creating and molding specific sounds. The Td20X is ultra realistic and having the general knowledge about setting up and recording certain instruments really helps. It's amazing what you can do to the snare sound just by tweaking compressor and EQ settings, you really need to know the basics here or it could get real ugly or really awesome ! I have been having some luck with the RoundBdge Wood snare and the Ballad. I will be applying some of the techniques I have been using to the other EXP snares as well.

Once you get something you like, could you share your settings with us? I'm struggling same as you to get that snare sound, but my basic sound processing knowledge is so limited, I just don't know where to start. The "change random setting" method is not working so well for me.

So far I have been having luck with the RoundBdge snare. The wood in particular but I will post the settings I have for it when I get home from work today. I record using the 8 outputs on the TD20X, these 8 outs have no ambience or multi effects just the dry instrument is processed from them. This seems to be ok for the toms, cymbals and kicks which work well with the effects in my DAW, but the snares are too dry ! They need a little natural ambience just like they would have in a real studio to get it breathing a little before the effects are applied. Having at least the ambience channel on the 8 outs would have been real nice but what do you want for $2800 ? The Vexpressions packs probably pull all you can from the TD20 snares and sound great out the stereo mains, but through the 8 outputs they loose their meat. I could assign the snare to the master out only and send it through my mixer with the ambience settings applied. I also need to go through a few other snares to see what can be done.
