    Foot trigger pad

Ok, so i'm building my own zendrum and one thing I want to look into is the possibility of building something that straps to the heel of my shoe with a piezo trigger. It's going to be mainly for triggering bass drum so it's likely to get a lot of use so it needs to be something that isn't going to wear or break easily.

I'm looking for some advice on the best way to design such a thing. My original idea was just to get two pieces of 1cm thick neoprene either side of the piezo and then strap that to my shoe and see if tapping the floor triggers it. simple design, less to go wrong, easy to make. Only down side I can see is maybe breaking the piezo or breaking the solder joints.

Anyone else got some ideas or input?

well glad to see some interest, i'll probably start a buildlog thread tommorow once i've finished sanding, done the first coat of sealer and attatched the strap locks.

Until then heres some pics of the basic shape pre-sanded edges, and post sanded edges

I needed a robust trigger housing to prevent damage to the piezo.

Maybe a combination of JMAN's foot jam and this for durability and sensitivity??

    Cool, looks good.
But would a piece of neoprene ontop of the sensor facing the floor be enough to trigger it or would it need something harder?

It's similar to the pads that my friend has on a little electronic drum kit thing:

except i'd be using it upside down and strapped on rather than just on the floor.

That has a hard rubber pad rather than a soft one, i'll just have to try neoprene see if it works or not

I bet the neoprene will work fine... and that thing will be huge!

I'm going to start making the woodern block for it tommoro, that way i'll be able to test it once i've finished putting together the megadrum that arrived today

Yeah, one of the things that put me off the zendrum (other than the price) was the amount of triggers. The megadrum can handle 56 triggers so i'm going to make the most out of all of them. Incorporating as much percussion as i think suits the style of music i'm playing and look into what sort of crazy effects i can start getting out of it too.

Should be putting up some pics to show the size of it once i've attached the strap locks tommorow. (I don't think it's that big, but then it's a lot smaller than my drum kit :P)
