Don't know how you guys get the pics to show up on the forum but here's a link to my photobucket album.

    http://s563.photobucket.com/albums/s...t=My-Kit_4.jpg
It is nothing like Bruford's kit now, other than the placement of the hi-hat. His toms are symmetrically positioned and set flat. His cymbals are also positioned symmetrically. He sits above his drums and reminds me of a steel drummer when he plays.
As you can see, my toms are set up in a normal descending manner and certainly not flat and the one smallest tom has to be quite high in order to accommodate the hi-hat underneath it.

The top view pic shows the hat better and the auxilliary snare underneath the pd-9. My brain is not shown, it sits down beside my hi-hat pedal and my pd-8 will probably be mounted up with the pd-9 (when it arrives).
The blues are here to take me and to drag me down to hell...

wow.. never see a kit like yours. the high tom is on top of hi-hat? it's quite odd, but I'm sure you found your way. the hi-hat seems really nice in front of the snare, for rudiments between snare and hi-hat there must be top notch.

    Thank You Guys

I just want to say thank you to you guys.
have been struggling getting anything that would be considered Drumming going on, had sticks flying all over the place, not hitting the center of things and crossing sticks.

I have a background as Motorcycle racer and R&D engineer, and I was close to add a new topic named:
-IF YOUR DRUMS WAS A RACE CAR-
I just thought that having a kit set-up the traditional way, just had to do with that you COULD NOT change things around to much.
NOW with electronic drumming things are changing, and after finding i.e this thread I do believe that things are changing.
as a Motocross racer you look upon your M/C as a tool, IF you can find something that makes you faster, better, smoother you try to accommodate that on your bike or riding position.

being in a natural ergonomically sane position is the ground rule as your body will function and operate better, I just could not get that feeling with my HH at 9-10 o'clock.

I have not been able to get it all the way to 12 o'clock, on my TD-4 kit but 11 o'clock or something.
    WHAT A DIFFERENCE !
suddenly my sticks are not crossing and I was able to make the kit more compact, and easier to move around on.

HOWEVER, as I am a newbie I have tried to look for advice and one of the advices I have really tried to listen to is how to properly hold the stick and find the balance point.
    http://www.freedrumlessons.com/drum-...drumsticks.php
the stick holding lesson I used have given that my palms are almost horizontal, with a slight angle sideways in the wrist.

    my question is now:
if I move the HH all the way to 12 0'clock I find it hard to hold my hands horizontal, it feels better to twist it. and even more the further to the right the HH would sit...try yourself...

    soooo....
when having the HH at 12 O'CLOCK is the described drums stick grip good, or what do I do wrong ?

    thanks

This is getting a little off topic but oh well...
I am not sure what you mean how you're holding your sticks but here is the proper way to hold your sticks in the matched grip. First find the balance point by placing the stick on your index finger at a likely starting point and letting it fall (gently) to the drum head. It should bounce kind of lazily a few times (maybe up to a half dozen depending on the tension on the head and the weight of the stick/taper of the shoulder etc).
The grip actually happens between the index finger and the thumb. The remaining fingers are used only for control, not grip.
Sitting at the snare drum gripping the sticks in that manner, form an approximately 90 degree angle between the tips of your sticks and place them at the center of the snare drum. Keep the backs of your hands facing up and butt end of the stick should be protruding out the heel of your hand in line with your forearm. Now you can move around the kit, trying to stay (within reason) in that general position. A good guy to watch for an example is Neil Peart. It doesn't matter how fast he's going, he is always in total control in that position and placing every note with precision.
Also, keep your middle, ring and pinky fingers working. It makes it easier to place those notes precisely and has the added benefit of creating airflow through your hands to help keep them dry so you lose fewer sticks.
The blues are here to take me and to drag me down to hell...

Hmmm...just looked saw that I never included my kit in this thread once it was finished. I did end up with the Sleishman Twin Pedal talked about earlier in this thread....and IMHO....it completes the symmetrical setup perfectly because it centers the kick.

Here's my thread with it's progression and more pics.

I might as well put in the link to my recent sym build: http://vdrums.com/forum/showthread.p...ar-%28Redux%29

This kit replaces the former sym kit which I had been playing for a few years. The layout is basically the same. The old kit used PD7/8/9 pads for the eight toms and snare. I believe that was the kit I played on the second collab video.

I really like your kit Jim. The color of the shells and black hardware look great together.

Thank you, Daniel. I am plagued by good taste. Just ask my wife!

That's humor, right there, for those who don't know me.

When I play...yes. Actually...when complete....most of the top row will trigger backing tracks and loops. Right now everything is set up chromatically alternating from the top down and the center out with the lower/lowest registered set(s) on the left side.

The whole top row is full size acoustics with cake pans. They can be all converted back in less than an hour. But no...I don't play acoustics....I have no need. This is just a hobby to me at the moment.

I guess I will have to google what chromatically means....lol

Brother I think you blew past hobby about 10 drums ago. That kit size has ventured into addiction territory
