Those used to be my backwall! I had 4 and would use 2 or 4 depending how insane I was.
Those sound great with a TD-12/20. Articulated low end and crisp highs. Every once in a while, just to prove I was insane, I would add the SWA18 powered woofers.

I hope you play in a metal band, 'cause these sumna' *****es are going to be loud.

Ditto what 'insane man' said...... though i'm refering to the original SR1530 which we use as our band PA. I did use them once as my monitors...... cue screaming children / car alarms going off / dogs howling etc.............. bloody great it was !!!!!! ....... the SA series is more powerful with 1100w rms of bass. Beware.

Well thanks for the input guys, i'm pretty stoked! It's a hard rock/metal band so they should fit in nicely. The more bass the merrier.

The only caveat is that they are heavy to haul. We once played a venue that was up two flights of stairs - no elevators. But the same goes for a full Marshall Stack.

I tried the 1521 and did not think it had that much bass.I am not sure if the 3 way is different. I think you will get alot more bottom end with 1 sub and 2 smaller speakers. The jbl PRX series is pricy but amazing sound quality, and lightweight.
I went to guitar center with my module and compared every decent speaker they had. I ended up getting the QSC powered speakers. They sounded the most like studio monitors and are loud, and the JBL PRX series are similar. I highly recommend going to a store with your module to compare.

If you don't want a sub, please consider the JBL prx515 or 525. GC had some deals on their used website for $900 per speaker for the JBL prx with 2 15"s in each cabinet, and they still are under 90lbs.

I've used the 1530's extensively with the 15" subs and they are unbeatable for a fast, great sounding set-up with no power amp racks. With the Yamaha 01v96 console-no processing racks either. Excellent sound for about 300 people. You really will need the subs if you want/need some low end. Double up for a larger venue/crowd. Easily transportable with hand trucks too. The 1530's can be had in the $1500 pair range. Highly Recommended!

Full range, not stage monitors. I suppose you could use them as drum fills if needed. They are a 15, cone mid and 1" throat-horn top. If my memory serves me, the older 1530's used RCF drivers (A company Mackie owned for a period of time-may still own them) a respected driver manufacturer providing various speakers/drivers to the pro-sound community. EAW is/was a builder of speakers that housed various RCF components. A high compliment indeed. They work well for their intended purpose but keep the venue size in mind. Mackie has a forum that has some good information on their speakers. I haven't heard the QSC products but based on the quality and reputation of this company, they should be a 'must listen' also.

Thanks again for the input! I picked these up a couple days ago and wow! Amazing full-range sound and good bottom end! I was able to talk this guy down to $2000CND ($1,600USD). Not bad considering he bought them last year and paid $3,400CND.

I think this summer I may pick up a pair of SWA2801z's to go along with these!
