I like "...and justice for all" (not that I dislike black album)
Ask not whether something is useful -- ask what it is useful for.

Roland TD-12, Iron Cobra hihat stand and bass-drum pedal from TAMA. My accoustic kit is a Yamaha Power-V Birch with Paiste Alpha-series splashes, crashes, and hihat. My ride is a Zildjan Ping Ride, 20" I think.

Check out my TD-12 on Youtube. My page is here http://www.youtube.com/HerlPearl.

Now don't get me wrong, Justice is probably my favourite Tallica album, but why on earth would you want to emulate the drum sound? I love the sound of the hats and cymbals, but the rest of the kit sounds like it's been mic'd through a pillow. The snare is devoid of any life and sparkle, though the toms are nice and boomy.. but that's all really just my opinion I suppose. The Black album however, is a completely different story, beautiful warm lively and natural snare, full bodied resonant kicks, huge fat but natural toms, and sexy bright crisp sparkling cymbals and hats- definately one the best drum sounds (and all round recordings) of the 90's!!! I personally favour the drum recording on CD1 of Garage Inc, check it out.. BTW, when the hell are those guys going to get back to writing songs like Dyers Eve???? Now that's classic TALLICA!!! KAAAH-REEPING..... DEEEEEEAAAAATHAAAAAAH!!!
"Today young men on acid realised that all matter is purely energy condensed to a slow vibration; That we are all of one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively; There's no such thing as death, life is only a dream and we're the imagination of ourselves.. Here's Tom with the weather"...

    TD-20 + TMC-6 + VF-1 + Gen16's = Not enough inputs.

I would stick with Master of Puppets or even Ride the Lightning myself.

What happened to this link? Does anyone have a copy of this Metallica kit, or any Metallica-style kit they'd be willing to share?

Yup. I understand the whole... lo-fi, underproduced vibe... but its still not a cool sound. to my ears.

Has to be Black Album. The album's crap, but the drum sound's the best of the 3.

Justice is the best album there, but that production... sooooo 80's! That big gap in the middle of the sound where the soul should be like it's screaming "see how bright the top end is on CD, listen to it, it's bright, oooh nice, bright, bright, tss tss tss, bright!". I mean, who wants a kick that sounds like you're tapping on a plaster wall with your finger tips?

And St Anger, eeeeewwww - Lars just does not get how to play that kind of snare sound. 'Bash bash bash' he can do, but subtle notes here and there seem to be beyond his comprehension. Mind you, subtlety was never his strong point - anyone for a session on Napster? ;P

It is good to have an end to journey towards, but it is the journey that matters in the end.

Custom Kit using Roland, Ddrum, Yamaha and Jobeky components on stands. Powering TD-6 and TD-3 Brains, plus Reason Drumkits 2 running in Reason 4 on MacBookPro and PowerBook G4.
