    JBL eons?

Anyone who knows about the JBL eons powered 15's please give me some input. I have a chance to pickup two used ones. My first question is anything i should look for when checking them out? Second a friend said there is two different powered eons, earlier version has less wattage then the second generation is that true? Thanks Joe

Now this guy is saying they are JBL p1's 140 watts, what would be a good price for these? He wants 450.00 with the stands for the pair. Any comments?

    JBL EON's

The second generation EON speakers are called G2 and have 400 watts of power. The LF woofer is driven by 300 watts and the HF compression driver is driven by 100 watts. Brand new, these speakers usually retail for around $650-$695...on eBay used they go for about $450-$550.

I use a pair of them with my V-Drums on stage. I love the sound quality and the power really cuts through the other instruments. Our band plays classic rock, with stage volumes around 85-90 dB.

I have an EON G2 and a 1st Gen EON. The 1st Gen EON was used and during the second gig with it, the woofer went toes up and I turned it off. I had only the G2 left and it went into thermal shut-down near the end of a set. We usually run the drums through the PA, but it was a small club and we didn't use the subs. I had to back the bass way off to make it through the rest of the evening. If your not going through a PA with decent subs, make sure the rig your getting can continuously handle the low end produced by V-drums . It was pretty embarrassing to be playing along and then -nothing- ; everything stopped...

Thanks for the info, really think im going to pass the gas on these unfortunately, im happy with what im using now ,would be nice not dragging a amp around. From what Ive searched they seem like a good deal with stands and bags. If anyone else in the Cleveland area might be interested they are on Craigslist Cleveland.

After doing some serious searching, the 2" voice coil on the woofer of the Eon p1 will just not handle the lower end of the Vdrums and will end up distorting or failing after constant use.

I use two Mackie SRM450's and 1 SWA1501 sub. I pretty much smoke most of the house PA systems and am usually asked to back things down a notch or two. I've only heard one person say they've had problems with thermal shutdown on the Mackies, so you might want to check them out.

    A little late, but here's my 2p . . .

I've owned a pair of JBL EON G2's for about 5 years. I've gigged with them for that period - over the last 18 months, they've probably been used for 100 gigs (with a TD20).

I'm playing rock - and also going out through a PA - however, on stage I'm competing with our bass players 8 x 10 Ampeg, and the guitarist's 2 Marshall cabs. To give you an idea, I have the sliders on the TD20 about 80% up, the headphone volume (I go from there to my JBLs via a DI box) at about 12 o'clock and the JBLs at about 60% volume: no problems, no distortion and plenty of headroom both at the TD20 and at the JBL's.

The JBL's are great. In my opinion, they offer a fuller sound than the Mackie SRM450s - we use 4 of them (plus 2 x 15 and 1 x 18 subs) for front of house, and I'm happier with the sound from the JBL's than I am with the 450's.

I have had NO problem with their reliability. In terms of durability, they're built like tanks. I'd be happy to suggest that anyone buys these.

It's important that before you buy - you listen and make your own judgement. With either the JBL or the Mackie - you're getting a great product.

I think that lower wattage speaker you're talking about is the JBL 1500. It's gray and, other than the color, looks exactly like the G2's. It's simply not enough power to hold up to the Vdrums.

I use a single JBL Eon G2 for small bar gigs and it sounds and works great. (rock covers). I'm sure adding a sub would even be sweeter but I'm happy and I'm trying to stay portable.

I can see the coolness of having two for stereo but, to be honest, if you're going to haul or buy 2 cabinets, I would think a mono G2 with a sub would push the Vdrums a little better. Besides, once you're 20 feet back in the audience your signal is mixed anyway. Plus, in comparison to an acoustic drum it's not like the acoustic has this wide stereo separation for the audience (so it would be just for you as you're sitting between the speakers)

Not saying it wouldn't be cool but a single drum source coming from the general direction of the drums is pretty natural sounding.

You'll find plenty of speaker threads here and everyone will push what they bought to justify their purchase .
