    Mesh heads

Budget is tight at the moment, was thinking of picking up some Pearl mesh heads until I have the dough to get the full set of Hart, since the full set of Pearl mesh heads is the price of ONE Hart head!

Anyhow, wondering if anyone has experience with them? Should I not bother?

I'd say don't bother: I have a few, and they just ain't durable. Most have developed slight runs in the mesh (akin to a run in panty hose), and it's only a matter of time before they'll need to be discarded since they're single-ply. I put them on the bottom of my converted drums, just for looks.

IMO, you're best off using the Roland mesh heads, which are without doubt the most durable mesh head available today. The Hart Magnums are about the same price, but aren't as durable as the Roland heads, and don't have the same long track record...

I'd go for the Rolands, except one of the heads I need is a 16". ;-)

Guess I'll just save my pennies then.

I agree with Chris. Dont bother with the Pearl heads. I had problems with the mesh pulling out of the rim, especially on the 12" heads. IMO they're a colossal waste of money. Save yourself some grief and wait till you can afford better quality heads.
Too much stuff to list & a TD-20

Might want to check with the Hart Heads as well. IMHO they are just as good( if not better ) than the Rolands. Plus they have a 16 inch head.

I use TDrum heads and the Tdrum rim noise eleminator and the stuff is great, I also play hard (Metal) and I use them since May and they are still in good shape.
Once I got one for the snare and I was through after one week, but I used normal sticks with wood tips (as recommended by tdrum for a longer life) and I think that destroyed the mesh because I play now with nylon again and I also use the remo muffls and the sound control (the round disk muffl for the snare) because I was afraid of destroying it again, but it works fine with the ddrum triggers
I also use for the kick the evans kevlar dots and also foam disk for more quiet playing, but just look on the picture:

So look at www.ebay.de they have some tdrums or on
www.musik-produktiv.de for more expensive tdrums in all sizes

That's funny I've got the Axis from New York for 350 bucks with case as doubles . In germany they're A-pedals, but I like the Axis logo more and they are cheaper (for me) at your country

And you can directly order them by fax. How stupid is that??? we can use the internet for order, however

Most mesh heads are made out of fabric (nylon) materials, while the Roland mesh heads are not a weaved fabric, but an extruded plastic material. Hence the durability.

Here's a thread showing the kind of damage that weaves are susceptible to:
